These may be from a myriad of sources such as ..
.. forgotten bank accounts
.. income tax refunds to an old address
.. bankruptcy payouts to unlocatable people
.. forgotten Safety Deposit Boxes
CAUTION: Some of the resulting info does not indicate the value of the item, and it may cost more to attempt the claim than it's really worth.
WARNING: If you move from California to another state and take your car or sell it to someone in another state, and it gets registered/licensed there without the knowledge of the DMV, then the good-ole State of California will use its power, might, and full resources to try to find you in its records and suck the registration money out of your salary or your bank account or add it to your FTB/State-Income-Tax liability.
BUT if they have something of yours, then they don't seem to turn so much as a grain of sand to locate you to give it back.

There have been a LOT of email messages claiming that if you forward that message
of prayer, of deserving needy, or of a cool PC product to at least 35 other people,
then you or the needy will receive a reward of healing or cash.
Some indicate that their best friend got $50 or $100 this way and that a lawyer
even checked it out and said that it FOR REAL.
If you have done any such and are wondering when your reward will come in the mail,
then it may be that they could not sufficiently identify your address and that
your name or email address will be found on the "Official List of UN-claimed Rewards"
as referenced at ...
