Glacier National Park - -

The whole thing is known as the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
The park has two halves and you can't drive between them.
From the US part (Glacer Nat'l Park) you can NOT get to Canada.
From the Canadina part (Waterton Park) you CAN get to the US - via cruise boat.
But you have to drive around the outside thru Montana and Alberta to get around.

As I recall the town of St.Mary outside the east entrance is small and of no consequence.

Recommend that you approach from the east, go west a little way past Logan Pass and turn
around and come back out the east.

There are two lakes in the US part with cruises of consequence.
The main thru road of the Park is called the Going-to-the-Sun-Highway.
If you drive it THRU, recommend that you go east-to-west: its tough part is downhill
and you are on the INside. Regardless, pull over whenever and look up, down, ahead,
and back: scenery great in all directions - don't want to miss any.
There is an interesting and scenic area around the Ranger Station 1/2 way along that
road (Logan Pass); not sure if it is HQ, but think that it may be the main
Visitor's Center.

There is the Lake McDonald area; not much to it scenery-wise;
if you skip it, then you won't have missed much.

There is St.Mary Lake; with accomodations at an area named Rising Sun;
not the Taj but typical of Nat'lParks.
They run boat trips from there: 1/2-day or all-day don't recall; BEAUTIFUL;
well worth the day; spend 2 nites there: arrive, sightsee, sleep, cruise, sightsee, sleep, leave.

Toward the east end of StMaryLake is a place called PostCard Point, so named for the
BEAUTIFUL view; as I recall the last time that we were there it was NOT well marked,
possibly they had too much traffic for the small parking spot.

There is the ManyGlacier area (Swiftcurrent Lake); not sure about accomodations any longer,
 think they tore the lodge down.
If they are still running boat trips from there, then be SURE to go.
If no lodging there, then leave RisingSun early, go to ManyGlacier, get early boat,
keep going.

The Prince of Wales hotel on the Canadian side is a SUPER place; tres expen$ive;
lunch is do-able. There are other nice place in the town there
 (forget its name; there are REAL cities in the Canadian Nat'l Parks).

Recommend that you spend at least one night in the area and DO take the boat excursion
out on Upper Waterton Lake which comes south to the US.

Roads on the Can side are NOT high speed, but scenic.
Roads on the US side will likely have some summer repair crews; watch for the flagman,
offer him a cool soda.

If you were gonna drive all the way, then you should take MORE time and see
Teton, Yellowstone, Rushmore, Banff, and Jasper.

Canadian ATMs give good exchange rate on C/Cards, so no need to get funny money
before you leave home.
