Hawaii - - (the 50th State - admitted in Aug.1959)
The State of Hawaii consists of 5 main islands and many smaller ones.
Air ticket prices will vary widely depending on season, day-of-week, time of day,
and destination. Some islands have NonStop service to the mainland.

Some cruise ships make a circuit of many of the islands with NO need to UNpack/pack
as often as island hopping by air. Generally they are of non-US registry and thus,
due to US law, they also take-in a non-US island.

All of the islands are the tops of sub-oceanic volcanoes.

The main ones are . . .
Oahu - The one containing the Capital city of Honolulu.
Really super surfing on the North Shore.
Home to Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is a skippable tourist trap.
Hawaii - The biggest, but NOT the one containing the Capital
Little Grass Shack at Kealakekua, Kona Coffee, Orchids,
Volcanoes National Park: Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea
City of Refuge, Black Sand Beach
Maui - The Valley Isle or The Magic Isle
(avoid anything connected with Maui Gold)
            The Road to Hana - super scenery;
(some rental cars do not allow travel due to twists and turns)
Hana Bay, The 7 Pools, Iao Needle, Lahaina (fishing and boating)
Volcano: Haleakala w/ downhill bike rides
   Kauai - The Garden Isle
(avoid anything connected with Kauai Electric)
Waialeale - The wettest place on Earth (or at least in the USA)
The Fern Grotto is a skippable tourist trap.
The Napali Cliffs, Grand Canyon of the Pacific = Waimea Canyon State Park,
Princeville - super resorts and snooty residential areas,
(some of So.Pacific was filmed in this area)
            Barking Sands,
The radio station WWVH on the Pacific Missle Range Barking Sands facility
can likely be visited if you ask nicely at the eastern gate.
Molokai - one-time home to a leper colony
Lanii - newest one to go commercial

The sugar cane grown in many areas is harvested by first burning the stand of cane in
the field. This seals the stalks to prevent problems in delay of processing and
was discovered by accident when a field caught fire.

Be wary in many areas about pickpockets and clerks who keep/steal credit-cards
  or at least the numbers.
